Grace

I’ve stood at this window

so many times, the office

too quiet behind me, practicing

this distancing is lonely.

This morning the wind is wailing;

I hear the chink of the line

against the flagpole, the pop

of our metal roof; the building’s

sighs are as heavy as my own

in this emptiness.  This is a place

of people —camaraderie, fellowship,

deep relations.  We have playgrounds

and classrooms aching for the sound

of children, a court space yearning

for the energy of youth games;

our auditorium sits waiting

to reverberate worship, echo

words of truth as our pastor

expounds and saturates hearts

to fullness while we open

ourselves, a people together,

living church…, here…, now….

I take my comfort in knowing,

whether in this place

or in our homes,

Grace stands ready

to receive us.

    1. It is such a blessing to hear from you! Thank you for visiting the page and sharing such kind words. Writing is such a blessing for me, and I am humbled by the process.
