Back behind the building, growing
lush against a forgotten track
of rusted railing, thrives these yellow
petals, a profusion of nature living
against manmade metal —industry
meets creation, art by happenstance,
a commingling of what has been
seen since the expulsion from Eden
and the forged fence meant to keep
us partitioned from these blossoms
flourishing in an abandoned land.
The unfettered yellow weaving up
and into what man meant as a barrier,
but, like all our temporary attempts
to control our environment,
we are reminded we are only
gatekeepers, caretakers, stewards
of this earth created by the One
who holds everything
— iron, blooms, rust —
in the palm of His hand.
