“There is no pit so deep,
that God’s love is not deeper still.”
— Corrie ten Boom
Deep cisterns wait, unending
wells of refreshing; sweet
and clear, life-giving springs.
We lower our emptiness down,
down, down into a darkness
we can feel, our souls weighted,
but it is in the deepest places
we become ready to be filled,
our hearts thirsting for living
water, that which restores us.
Our parched flesh awaits
renewal, the saturation
of grace, baptism, rebirth.
We cannot slake this need
with self nor can this world
quench us — this is holy work,
replenishment only God
can give us.
