“Home is the nicest word there is.”
— Laura Ingalls Wilder
Receiving me each time I enter in —
no empty room or hollow spaces,
this place is filled, each corner,
closet, drawer holds remembrance.
It has seen drama and dreams,
tears and wounds, emotions
spilling over and pushing out
—but never breaking—
the foundation or supportive beams:
love is the cornerstone here.
It is my sanctuary, my library,
my museum, but also a warm
blanket, a cozy hearth, protective
walls, a fortress and a retreat.
You see me and my beloved
reflected in each nook and cranny,
more than mere brick and mortar,
more than house or residence,
it is our blessed dwelling, a home,
both tangible and that which we carry
with us, our memory.
