“Then, together with them,
we who are still alive
and remain on the earth
will be caught up in the clouds
to meet the Lord in the air.
Then we will be
with the Lord forever.”
— 2 Thessalonians 4:17, NLT
Sometimes when I am settled,
my heart swells in waves
of great faith, when the veil is thin
or moved aside, lifted, and I feel
God’s presence, almost
as if my soul pushes
under my skin
in an effort to fly out.
I know there is more
than this bone shell —
my soul sings in resonance,
in beautiful communion,
with the Eternal.
Sometimes when in contented
wonder I am looking up
into the sky, I believe space
might break wide open,
and I could fall inside
into the blue and then black
past the stars into
a light that goes on
ending up in forever….
One glorious day,
this my soul knows,
I will fly.
