A change in the way you chose
to behold, taking the time to know
life as it is, as it can be when
you really want to see.
You think there is no artistry;
the day may seem dull,
and you hear no music,
see no color, feel no love.
Wait; be still; attend; there
is beauty all around us —
tiny stems opening vibrant
blooms at our feet,
consoling music in the wind
moving through the leaves
and echoing in wood
hollows, the song
of birds in the trees,
even the startled
flutter of nestlings awaiting
their mother. We have music
within, the thump of our own
hearts and the gentle
breathing of a loved one
sleeping near us, a lullaby
that soothes us to dream
The warming sun wakes up
our bones; the glowing moon
gives us the day’s last poem
We are a people of perspective —
we see as we feel as we believe.
I am witness to a creation
by a God who loves and lives
and gives us all we need
to perceive and be a people
with eyes wide open to all
the beauty existing now
and resonating into our
imperishable tomorrows.
