Blessed Interruptions

“…what one calls interruptions

are precisely one’s real life —

the life God is sending

… day by day.” — CS Lewis

You go through the day

encountering interruptions,

spaces where life actually

happens, when routine is stopped

and your list of “very important things”

fades because someone pauses,

holds back in hesitation, waiting,

gauging your response —

don’t  ignore this unspoken

invitation — stay in the moment!

Life is most fully lived

in the in-between, when tasks

are put on hold and we soak

in the refreshing presence

of other souls.

Stop, look into the eyes,

and thank God that you have time

to really attend another human,

to expose your heart, to grapple

in thought, the silly and the profound,

to grow in the beautiful act

of giving and receiving.  It is within

such pauses that our most blessed

memories are born, warming

our days in the coming years

just as gloriously as the morning

and evening sun.
