A little “Good morning” left
by a sweet friend with a simple
note reminding me to “smile” —
and I did, a huge grin, gratitude
spreading across my cheeks,
my heart singing and adding
a lift to my alone-again workday.
These vibrant pick petals
with a center explosion of yellow,
tiny sparks like fireworks,
bring me such joy.
We sometimes slog in this new
world of separating and disinfecting,
masking and distancing; a sneeze
or cough might get us banned
from a public meeting,
but we are together in our isolation,
confused but trying to understand
how our world could change
so quickly. Holdfast; there are
ways to remain grounded,
like this gift of flowers
left with love from another
wanting to remind me
we are not alone in this.
