“Normal is a paved road; it’s comfortable to walk, but no flowers grow.” — Vincent Van Gogh

We put too much stock into uniformity,
conforming ourselves to what society
calls normal; we limit our ideas
of what is beautiful — in lips, hips,
eyes, skin; pattern, color, art, music;
we cast our gaze toward a latest craze
and the faces and places in vogue,
but, oh, what we miss.
Take a look around today— beauty exists
in the visage, flower, tree, sky, music,
canvas that we sometimes dismiss
in our narrowed view of life.
Let us expand our vision and see
all we have been missing.
