A Shadow Falls

“You can only come to the morning through the shadows.” — J. R. R. Tolkien

Sometimes a shadow falls,

dimming the day, removing

color that once saturated

everything.  We sigh deeply,

each breath out releasing

the burdens we carry

until we slow into stillness

and rest.  Revived,

once again enlivened

to the vibrancy of life,

we still see imperfections,

but the balance we’ve

found grounds us,

allows us to see

the beauty

as well.
