The sun is setting,
making a golden puddle
of light through a shaft
in the curtains. I am sighing
away the day’s hours,
reliving moments of joy
and also the tensions
that come with existing
during this incongruous
time. The honeycomb
pattern in the drapes
diffuses the last evening
light so beautifully,
and I am content
to sit and process
all things. I move
through the conundrums
first, make plans, pray
for guidance, relinquish
my need to control
(well, at least I try),
and then I settle
on the highlights,
moments with those
people who make me
happiest, morning walks
with my hubby, the afternoon
sun on my face, sweet new
blooms, and this time,
the quieting hours
that prepare us for bed.
