I hear You best in early
watches, 2, 3, 4am;
Your presence near,
and I am wide-eyed
with questions,
my whys and what ifs,
and I feel like a child
just awakened
by lightening.
You attend me patiently,
calm my flutterings,
and nudge me
to remember other souls
to pray over.
In these predawn hours,
I imagine the depths
of hollow sky above me
emphasizing
my smallness,
and I am awed
into praising You,
Adonai, Almighty.
These encounters,
a lingering fragrance,
remind me during
the moving shadow
of our daily hours
how much You
love me, how much
You are love,
entirely.
