Would I have walked the wave,
feet gliding over salt water
as cool as glass, moonbeams
like tinsel, stars like confetti,
my God waiting to comfort me?
Would I have kept the vigil,
expectant and observant
during the lure of night,
refused my body’s ache for rest,
ignored the weight pulling down
my eyes? Would I have claimed
to know Him, said yes to every
inquiry of my relation, three
absolute affirmations before
the rooster crowed?
How would I know of such
deep introspections to answer
the question: What faith have I?
