Without Breath

Let the fields and their crops burst out with joy! Let the trees of the forest sing for joy… — Psalm 96:12, NLT

Would you weep

with me if we imagined

a world with no trees?

No arching branches,

no swaying canopies,

no stately crowns,

no fruit-laden boughs

no music through leaves,

no root-tilled ground,

no gold-russet season,

no shaded retreats—

imagine our world limbless,

bare, denuded, emptied,

without breath.
