Love that suspends ego,
lets go the bitter renderings
of past wrongs, forgives
seven times and then seventy
times seven more.
Love that covers others
with mercy — clothing, feeding,
sheltering those with needs
even to the point of sacrifice.
Love that listens to the grief,
holds vigil during times of illness
and death, and settles into
the spaces of loss in support
of those hurting.
A grateful love grows.
A grateful love endures.
A grateful love knows
we are nothing without
that first imparting
of the Love that has no end
and had no beginning.
