Hope on this First Day of Advent*

The people who walk in darkness will see a great light. For those who live in a land of deep darkness, a light will shine. — Isaiah 9:2, NLT

We wait, look forward, anticipate,

and there is a joy in that expectation

of what will soon come to pass,

but there is also a glory in our now —

He is here, listen for the still, small

voice; He is with us, our Emmanuel

abides as an ever-present Christmas;

He is our protector, our Abba holding

us, binding up our wounds.

Hope is not only for our future;

hope is eternal, so while we look

forward, let us live attentively

in the humility of all that has passed,

all that is now, and all that we await

in the future; glory be… there is Light.
