Elusive Notes

Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another: “What! You too? I thought I was the only one.

— CS Lewis

We all shelf part of our selves,

a section or two we reserve

for decorum’s sake —

our child-wonderer,

our freedom-dancer,

our moody introvert,

our seafarer,

our poetic thinker —

those traits that you think

most will never understand,

those emotions that words

can never get just right,

that elusiveness, our essence.

Sometimes, on rare occasions,

we meet someone whose own

notes harmonize with those

resonant tones in our persona,

and, for a brief moment,

there is a symphony,

a moment shared together,

a rare and kindred beauty.
