I’m settling down after a day
of “and next,” end-of-year details,
the requirements of all lines filled
and signatures on the dotted lines,
the uploads and figures, the necessary
accounting. And I am so thankful
for the kindness of each soul who shared
my day, those who said,”Good morning,”
made me laugh, helped in some way,
shared a few words before departing
for the evening.
Now I need refueling, some restorative
music, those cello notes that soothe me,
and behind that a quiet I can sink into.
I will call it an early night, nod off as soon
as the light goes out, and I pray my
dreams take me to the shore of a blue sea,
the sun rising, the gentle warmth sinking
deep into my welcoming skin.
