A Dynamic Slate

Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end. —Ecclesiastes 3:11

How does the slender stem

hold the long and silky petals

and the pollen filled center

pillow of the zinnia and daisy?

How does each snowflake

break into a unique symmetry

and then wait lined upon on a leaf

as a miniature art exhibition?

How does the wave crest

and roll into itself before falling

over sand and shell reforming

the waiting shoreline?

All this sumptuousness,

this dynamic slate of lush green,

cool blue, ice-white, and wondrous

touches of fuchsia and orange

are the tools of the Creator,

the Artist of all that ever was

or could be beautiful.
