If God grant me any gift of creativity, may I be a willing-hearted artisan, giving that gift back, reflecting His glory, humbled by any part He allows in an expression of life.

There is always something
niggling to get out,
some phrase, some scribble,
some soul utterance
that tells part of my story,
reveals a little hint
as to who I have been,
who I am, and who I am
becoming, and I wonder
of Van Gogh and Michelangelo
Emily and Frost,
Beethoven and Mozart,
Dostoevsky and Dickens,
tellers of life able
to express a little
of self and connect
to a truth that reveals
something inherent
in all of us, and I long
to be that kind of artist,
to give something
that connects to others
who for a moment can say,
“Ah, someone else feels
that same way, too.”
And, even more than that,
to reflect the glory and love
of the Giver of life.
