Clarity

“I experience a period of frightening clarity in those moments when nature is so beautiful. I am no longer sure of myself, and the paintings appear as in a dream.”

― Vincent Van Gogh

Van Gogh knew

the value of blue,

the gift of sunny

blooms, the elegant,

refracted texture

of light  —

and I sigh in kindred

admiration for this

simple bouquet

recessed in a little window,

and I understand why

he felt compelled to paint,

to reflect something of the

loveliness that speaks,

to clarify the beauty

that overwhelms

us in this life.
