Shine

I didn’t fall in love with you…. I bloomed.

I sometimes forget

how bright you shine—

I’ve become accustomed

to your ways— but then

when you laugh and smile

as you tell an old story

in that familiar style,

I am taken back to the first

time I realized my soul

resonated with your everything-

voice, kindness, gentle manner,

the moment I knew I could love

you forever, the startled joy I felt

with that first spark that began

our ongoing boy-meets-girl story.
