Witnessing Grace

As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.

—1 Peter 4:10

Light breaks just

beyond these aging

limbs, this kindly tree

with its split bark

and thinning canopy

is still offering a single

cascade of

fuchsia blooms—

morning’s gift

of dewy blossoms—

and I witness

life in all of its beauty,

take in my breath —

filling my lungs

and celebrating

that fact I am alive,

and wonder what gift

I can give back

to the world

on this glorious,

precious morning.
