Community, then, is an indispensable term in any discussion of the connection between people and land.
— Wendell Berry
We watched the day end
along our city’s skyline,
the October night
harkening back
to all that makes
community special —
the flavors, smells,
sights, sounds
that remind you
of where you live now,
and while oil fields
and miles of pump jacks
can sometimes
overrun us, there
is great beauty
in our Tall City
when the sun
breaks over buildings,
children roll down
a gently rising hill,
and couples whisper
to each other under
an orange and turquoise sky.
