I saw an angel in the marble and carved until I set him free. — Michelangelo
I saw a butterfly,
wings just opening near
the lacy leaves,
but then I was plunged
deep underwater,
gliding through
the reefs behind
a graceful angelfish —
I thought only clouds
could morph so easily,
and then this brown-eyed,
wild violet hiding in a crush
of velvet delighted me
with its artful mimicry.
