Sustenance

…would the same tasks which fill our daily lives put on new meanings if we wrought them in the spirit of renewal from within–a spirit of growth and beauty.”

— Helen Keller

The hummingbird delivers

pollen to the generous flower,

that open table draped in silk

offering up delectable nectar,

and this cycle fosters a continual

banquet —creation is filled

with the beauty of such symbiotic

relations.  Never underestimate

how much you give or diminish

what you take — balance

is essential in the nourishing

of earth — sow, harvest, plant, reap,

allow for times of rest, respect

these natural patterns that began

when God told us upon leaving Eden,

Cultivate the ground…We

are accountable to steward

what we receive for renewal.
