Truth springs up from the earth, and righteousness smiles down from heaven. — Psalm 85:11, NLT
Through leather my fingers grasp
the soil, plow a tiny portion
of ground, the sun warms
my back countering
the sensation of cold dirt
still waking from winter’s
slow-released breath,
but the pear trees know,
the white blooms announced
an end to frost a few days ago,
and so bees buzz, butterflies
dance, and I lean in — just one
more of God’s creatures
getting reacquainted with earth.
