A Summer Day

“I’ll tell you how the sun rose,—

A ribbon at a time.”

— Emily Dickinson

The day begins in calming gray

before the rising rays weave in

ribbons of deepest amethyst

and soft lavender, and then dawn

unwinds light along the horizon

in silken skeins of brilliant shimmer.
