Divine Hours

The morning steals upon the night,

Melting the darkness — Shakespeare

In the dim pre-morning

when most are just

entering REM sleep,

we wake and begin

slow and gentle steps,

stretching, opening

our hearts in faith

as He brings us into

the promise of dawn,

and we say

in unison with

the first birdsong,

This is the day

the Lord has made;

we will rejoice

and be glad in it.
