Stray

We live, in fact, in a world starved for solitude, silence, and private; and therefore starved for mediation and true friendship.” — C.S. Lewis

I stand amid the sleepy leaves

dampened to a silver-green

and the glistening stones

scattered across the earth,

and I see one tender flower,

a stray from the field of others,

so I sit at a respectful distance,

understanding the need

for solitude.
