Courage

Courage: from the Latin root ‘cor’ meaning heart

What story dwells

just inside your chest,

pushing against

your ribs,

making it hard

to breathe in,

gnawing at you

to speak it out?

We were made

to communicate,

exhale the who

of ourselves,

relate through

our stories,

for the speaking

changes everything.

Lean in and attend,

language sings,

spoken, signed,

or written,

it is a gift given

to encourage others

to join the narrative,

our dynamic dialogue

of all the passion

and pain we’re living,

so share your truth,

let loose your heart,

release your courage—

allow your soul to speak,

discipline your soul to listen.
