“New Year’s Day is a good time to fix one’s eyes on the only One who knows what the year is to hold.” —Elisabeth Elliot
The watch before the dawning
of a new year and the restarting
of a rhythm that marks time
with our memories, reminds us
of our place in this world.
May we consider the dissolving
of one year as the new one forms
by unloosing and resolving our
reflections and projecting
a firmness in our expectation
to find purpose in what is past
and what lies before us, taking
courage in the constancy
of diurnal renewal and the One
who remains steadfast in His love
for us now and in the evermore.
