Disquieted

Morning, noon, and night

I cry out in my distress,

and the Lord hears my voice.

—Psalm 55:17, NLT

Another day shutters to gray,

lulling us into the sleeping hours,

but I’ve had no dreams of late,

no traveling in hazy realms

of memory or traipsing far

into imagined lands of whimsy;

what sleep I’ve had is unsettled

but holds no imagery,

the same thoughts that reign

in my waking state follow me

to slumber, and in both

my salve remains the same —

continued communion

with the God of all comfort.
