When I have sat too long
looking at data on a white
screen, I need a reprieve,
so I push up from my little
work nook and head for the
my little oasis of greenery.
Some would walk by and never
notice; even some who see
it everyday pay it little attention,
but it is paradise to me.
This charming tuft of land
surrounded by concrete
but shaded by a few trees
and the shadow of the church
welcomes me, and I can breathe
deeply, find sanctuary.
I search for new buds,
watch for all that crawls
and flutters, and wait for new
friends to land near me.
This is a wee place,
maybe a twenty by
ten foot space, but I am
lost in a world of beauty.
Finding harmony with nature,
stepping in and realizing
the changing features
of foliage and bloom,
reminds me that this
marvelous world
of growing things
was made for us
to enjoy as we praise
His greater creation —
and it, my friends,
is glorious.
